TRANSLATION: There’s a saying right now that goes like this: “If you ever wonder where is home, look for the Shaan Xi Hong Tong great locust tree, which family is from the great locust tree? The family of Lao Guan Wu”. The origin of this saying came many years ago, when people were forced to leave their homes in Shaan Xi. Neighbours, friends, and relatives would gather to say their goodbyes and wonder if they would ever meet again. It was a deeply painful and heartbreaking exchange. As families left, they’d continue to stop and look back, again and again, until they could no longer see the great locust tree. This story is where the saying came from, as the people of Shaan Xi say we can never forget the great locust tree that represents the home of our ancestors. Whether you walk a thousand miles or ten thousand miles, no matter how far you go, you should remember where you come from. This is the tradition of the Chinese people of Shaan Xi: “the leaves fall, but they will always return Back To Their Roots”.
